Is seeing the spectacular Northern Lights during your Icelandic honeymoon high on you bucket list? Then there can be no better place to stay than Hotel Ranga, a beautiful chalet style hotel set in the heart of Southern Iceland’s Golden Triangle

General

If you are looking for a gorgeous, log-cabin style hotel for a wow-wedding or adventure honeymoon in Southern Iceland, Hotel Ranga ticks all the boxes. This delightful hotel nestles in the vast landscapes of Iceland’s volcanic tundra, where the panoramic vistas stretch out to the horizon, and the Northern lights are a regular sight in the endless skies.

Hotel Ranga has acquired an excellent reputation for its gourmet food, charming accommodation and service. It offers all the facilities of a modern resort, whilst retaining a cosy ambience and traditional Icelandic values.  The resort lies between the towns of Hella and Hvolsvollur, by the banks of the river Ranga in middle of South Iceland’s beautiful panoramic scenery.

It is ideally situated for exploring the iconic sights of Iceland – including the famous Geysir, Gullfoss waterfall (which is frozen in the winter), the Blue Lagoon geothermal lake and the two glaciers of Eyjafjallajokull and Myrdals Jokull, it is also just an hour’s drive from the city of Reykjavík and Keflavik international airport. Sightseeing tours, an absolute must to help you get the most out of this fascinating country, can be organized from the hotel. Or you may prefer to travel freestyle by hiring a car to get you out and about.

The hotel is a wonderful base to return to after a day’s exploring; enjoy a leisurely soak under the starry night sky in one of three steaming hot tubs followed by a delicious dinner in the highly-acclaimed restaurant. Perhaps a nightcap in the bar – sitting, of course, on one of the cheeky bespoke bar stools, which are shaped like a pair of legs – and, if you are lucky, finish the day off with a display of the incredible Northern Lights.

Accommodation

Hotel Rangá is the only 4-star hotel in Southern Iceland and offers 51 luxurious, individually styled rooms and suites. If you are on honeymoon, treat yourselves to the Antarctica Suite – which has been creatively themed in black and white to reflect all things Antarctic – complete with decorative penguins. The room boasts a triple aspect from its balconies and windows – so if the Aurora Borealis does make an appearance you can be awe-struck at the phenomena from the comfort of your own suite!

Wining & Dining

The hotel also features a riverside restaurant for tasty breakfasts and fine dining, a lounge and bar

sports & activities

The hotel boasts an excellent game room with jigsaw puzzles, board games and pool table; massage facilities and three much-loved outdoor hot tubs. Your best chance of viewing the Northern Lights is between September and April, and to ensure that you won’t miss them if they appear in the middle of the night, you can request a phone call to your room to alert you to one of nature’s most spectacular light shows.

The Hotel also has a first-class observatory for both stargazing and sun gazing – and, thanks to its rural location, light pollution is not an issue. The hotel can also turn off the external lights to provide optimal conditions to view the sky at night.

Weddings & Honeymoons

Couples marrying at Hotel Ranga can choose from a multitude of places to say “I do” – from it’s own stunning location on the banks of the River Ranga to the spectacular scenery around the hotel – including breathtaking waterfalls and glaciers and lunar landscapes. This year the hotel has extended its wedding offering to include candle-lit ceremonies in a nearby cave, privately owned by the hotel and adapted to host weddings, including musical accompaniment.

Choose either winter nuptials, when the sparkling snow and ice make a stunning backdrop to your special day or a summer wedding when the days are at their longest, the snow and ice has melted away and the meadows turn lush and green.

The hotel’s wedding co-ordinators offer four types of wedding ceremonies: by priest, district commissioner, a civil union or even a pagan ceremony. They will do their utmost to ensure your wedding is picture-perfect and filled with lasting memories. Contact them and let them help you begin happily ever after with one of their specialty wedding packages that cater to various budgets and tastes: Hekla, Eyjafjallajokull, and Katla. All three include accommodation for two nights and four-course luxury dinner with various services.
