Marriage in Sri Lanka is considered an everlasting sacred bond between two people and Temple Tree Resort & Spa has made its name as a prime wedding destination in beautiful Sri Lanka.

Following the official registration of the wedding by the Government Registrar of marriages, attested by two witnesses, the traditional Sri Lankan wedding ceremony resembles a mini cultural pageant. It includes drummers, dancers, religious chanting, exchanging of gifts, lighting of a traditional oil lamp, firecrackers and the ascending and descending the decorated ‘Magul Poruwa’ (dais). Conducting these traditions with meticulous care is considered a good omen for a happy and successful married life.

The bride is often dressed up in a richly decorated sari worn in traditional Kandyan style adorned with seven customary chains and headdress. The groom wears royal regalia similar to that which was once worn by the Kandyan Royalty of Sri Lanka. They are accompanied by a team of young men and women who attend to the wedding couple.

The Poruwa Ceremony, which involves a series of rituals including the exchange of rings, tying of the little finger of the bride and groom with a single gold thread to symbolize unison and pouring water over it, the singing of “Jayamangala Gatha” (a good luck chant) and the couple feeding each other milk rice prepared by the breaking of fresh coconut.

The resort’s experienced wedding co-ordinators will organise all the formalities, from the marriage registration to invites, décor, dress, food and everything else. Their specialty is the customization of each offering, ensuring that each wedding is unique. Choose from an early morning beach wedding or a romantic sunset ceremony bounded by true Sri Lankan traditions.

You can opt for special additions to add value to your day, including heart shaped balloons for guests to set free; a pair of doves for the couple to release; music of your choice; an elephant ride for the couple and a host of other activities. Adding flavor to the occasion will be the traditional sweetmeats, beverages and full course meals prepared by the expert chefs.

Don’t forget to unwind at the Ayurveda Spa before enjoying a candle let dinner under the stars. Be treated to a truly romantic stay with scented candles, roses, sparkling wine and heart shaped chocolates.
