A Marriage Made in Manhattan
You’ve seen it in the movies, now you too can live the dream with a New York wedding fit for a star!
Do you fancy a film star send off into married life like Carrie Bradshaw with a Sex and the City style glitzy ceremony? Or a lakeside setting in Central Park, in the romantic Ladies Pavilion you have seen so often in the movies, followed by a reception in one of New York’s exclusive skyscraper restaurants with panoramic city views? Perhaps you’d prefer a floating ceremony aboard the World Yacht as it sails around Manhattan taking in the city’s iconic landmarks – the possibilities for New York City weddings are endless! NO wonder it is one of the most popular destinations in the world to say “I do!”
Typical New York couples are sassy and sophisticated, fun-loving and more importantly they know what they want out of life. They love the hustle and bustle of the city, it’s atmosphere and of course it’s glamour. It’s the excitement that has drawn them there. So, if you are a New Yorker at heart, then the city that never sleeps is the perfect place for your destination wedding – and the amazing NYC skyline promises to make an awe-inspiring backdrop to your wedding photographs.
Walk through the city streets that have been the backdrop to many blockbuster films and popular TV series including Sex and the City, Friends, When Harry Met Sally, The Wolf of Wall Street, Ted 2 and Maid in Manhattan – bump into a celebrity or two, shop in designer stores and Bloomingdales or simply enjoy a cupcake from Magnolia bakery and soak up the atmosphere.
And when planning your New York City wedding, remember that anything goes here, with brides choosing everything from cheeky shorty dresses, 50’s style vintage gowns to a tradition princess style dress and grooms opting for evening dress suit rather than the traditional wedding attire. The wedding becomes a celebration of the surroundings – the most exciting city in the world and there’s always an element of sparkle – be it a luxury limousine, a New York Cab, a Champagne toast overlooking central park, enjoying a romantic dinner cruise on the Hudson – the choice is endless. And the best bit is that a wedding in New York doesn’t have to cost the earth! Wedding packages with leading UK tour operators start from as little as £2,000.
If you want to marry in New York you must obtain a marriage license. The bridal couple must apply for their license by appearing together in person with valid identification, and complete their application at the Office of the City Clerk. It will be prepared while you wait, and you will take it with you when you leave.
The application consists of an affidavit, listing personal details including the couple’s name, address, birthplace, date of birth, social security number (where applicable) and marital history and the couple need to make a sworn statement that there is no legal impediments to the marriage. Those who have been married before must list their prior marriages and supply their previous spouse’s full name, date the divorce was granted, place the divorce was filed and take along the final divorce decree. Widows and widowers must also provide the deceased spouse’s death certificate.
