At the heart of the region, the pretty little town of Amalfi, on the shore of the Gulfo de Salerno, was one of the four great maritime republics of Italy that once dominated the southern coastline – centuries later it is now famous for sun-filled piazzas and winding streets that beg to be explored.
Despite its size (you can easily walk from one end of the town to the other in around 20 minutes) Amalfi has a wealth of attractions. The centrepiece is the Cattedrale di Sant’Andrea, which dates from the early 10thcentury and has been built with a blend of historical styles – the exterior is Sicilian Arabic-Norman, and features the beautiful arches of the Cloister of Paradise whilst the interior is Baroque. The rustic whitewashed alleys and stairways throughout the town link pretty squares and courtyards with traditional family-run cafes and trattoria serving local dishes.

"We always said that we would get married abroad but I didn’t necessairily want a traditional beach wedding. It is something that we had previously spoken about so once Qamar had proposed we knew that’s what would happen."
